OUR TOWNS’ BEST DIRECT MAILER

When done properly, direct mail still works! Most consumers, especially in smaller communities, have gotten so annoyed with the glut of email spam and digital ads that a good multi-advertiser LOCAL centric direct mailer is has become a welcome novelty for many recipients- especially when they recognize someone they know or have done business with as opposed to receiving the same old junk from the the same old national retailers.

We coordinate, produce, and mail out a shared advertising co-op direct mailer between a handful of other LOCALs only, non-competing (category-exclusive) businesses. It’s branded with the Our Town’s Best logo implying that the participants are the town’s best business in their given category- and frequently they are! This concept combined with the unique, stand out nature of the print piece gets a LOT more attention which equals a LOT more conversions when compared with national and regional mailers or a small, standalone postcard from one business. Plus, advertisers get the benefit of being associated positively with the other respected businesses that participate.

Depending on the market, we target either a 5,000 or 10,000 piece mailing. The size and shape of the actual piece and the number of spaces / participants varies by location but, generally, we do a large 12″ wide x 9″ tall postcard because it stands out as the largest thing in the mailbox. We then combine it with a web link and a QR advertised on the piece making it easy for recipients to get more information, call, or visit businesses on the mailer from one central location, styled like a mobile “Our Town’s Best” app but with NO forms or registrations, NO Play/App Store downloads, NO passwords, etc..

As of Aug. 2025, with the increase in USPS Postage rates, the cost to send 10,000 postcards (including 6+ cents each for the print cost IF you buy in bulk) ranges between $4,800 to well over $7,000 depending on how much of the stamping, sorting, and labeling work YOU are willing to put in (and if you also have a bulk permit). Never mind the cost of the mailing list and the artwork.

Our co-ops range between $475 to $800 for a 10,000 piece mailer and, because we are confident that the vast majority of our advertisers will see a return on investment, we never require a contract for multiple insertions. On the next mailing, we simply offer existing advertisers the first right of refusal. Ad design and layout with a proof prior to print is always included in our ad insertion price, i.e. no surprises..

Payment is required upfront. We do have outstanding references and a verifiable reputation but we do not have any practical recourse after paying for printing and then postage. Thanks for understanding.
